Dr. Kathleen O'Dell (Owner, Licensed Kindermusik Educator, certified Pre-K through 3rd grade teacher) Kathleen O'Dell, owner of Kindermusik at Western Reserve Center for the Arts, purchased this business from Terri Lenzo in 2008 because she believes so strongly in the benefits of music for young children. This local business has been going strong for 20 years! Both of Kathleen's children are former Kindermusik students, and the oldest is in college now! Kathleen has a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction and a Masters in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University and a Bachelors in International Political Science/Japanese Studies from the University of Hawaii. A former classroom teacher, Kathleen has worked with children of all ages in Ohio, Hawaii and in Japan. Kindermusik combines the two things Kathleen loves the most...music and children!
Sharon Swetland (licensed Kindermusik Educator) Sharon has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a minor in Speech and Theatre. She is probably most often recognized for her role of co-host on the Ohio Lottery's Cash Explosion Game Show, which airs on Saturday evenings. She is also a host for the Lottery's nightly drawings. Before moving to a career of primarily television work, Sharon worked as a professional actress with the regional company of The Cleveland Play House, appeared at the Great Lakes Theatre and various other professional theatre companies. Her work with children and music started with musical theatre and youth theatre training. Kindermusik is a wonderful blend for her dedication to children - music, childhood development, education, and personal interaction during those precious first few years.
Julie Chabola (licensed Kindermusik Educator) began studying piano at the age of five. She graduated from Kent State University in May of 2008 with a Bachelor's of Music Education degree, with a piano and choral focus studying under Jerry Wong. Julie held a graduate assistantship at The University of Akron from 2009-2011 studying under Mayumi Kikuchi and Philip Thomson, earning a Masters degree in Piano Performance. Julie has been private piano teaching since 2005. Julie has been actively involved as an accompanist. She has accompanied many voice and instrumental recitals, concerto competitions, ensemble works, the women's chorus at Kent State, and has played for many musicals. Julie's passions are children, music, family, friends and her two cats. Without them, her life would be incomplete!
Kara Morgan (Licensed Kindermusik Educator, Office Manager) A certified pre-k-3rd grade teacher, Kara has a Bachelors in Early Childhood education from Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA and a Masters in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Marygrove College. Taking some time off from teaching, Kara enrolled her first daughter in Kindermusik at four months of age and fell in love with the program. Kara loves the social interaction, early literacy skills, and fun that make the Kindermusik experience so magical! Kara is also the Office Manager and assists our families with their scheduling needs, etc.
Keri Forsthye (licensed Kindermusik Educator) graduated from the University of Mount Union in 2012, with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Intervention. While in college she worked as an assistant teacher at a child care center, where she quickly realized how much she enjoys working with young children. She eventually became a lead preschool teacher. Keri has applied her lifelong love of music to her teaching, discovering the power that music has to open minds and help children grow emotionally as well as academically. Keri loves teaching Kindermusik, and watching young children learn and develop essential skills in through music and play!
Jennifer Alvim (Licensed Kindermusik Educator) is a Licensed School Counselor. Jennifer received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Eastern Nazarene College and her Master of Science in Education with a concentration in School Counseling from Youngstown State University. She has over fifteen years of experience working in Education and Counseling and has been involved in music for most of her life. Most recently, as a Kindermusik mom, Jennifer has experienced first-hand the joys of participating in Kindermusik with her son. She is passionate about the benefits of music in the personal, social, and emotional development of children and is excited to join the studio.
